RS Alberts Leads Charge to Fund WEDnetPA - April 29, 2009 Harrisburg, PA

Pennsylvania Senator Gene Yaw, District 84 Representative Garth Everett, Executive Director of WEDnetPA, Larry Michael and Vice President of RS Alberts Company, Seth Alberts, met Wednesday to discuss the future of the Workforce and Economic Development for Pennsylvania program (WEDnetPA). Last year the program lost 40% of its funding and could face more cuts for 2010.

WEDnetPA was created to make companies across the commonwealth more competitive by updating and improving the skills of their employees.

WEDnetPA is an alliance of a variety of educational providers across Pennsylvania - including Pennsylvania's 14 State System universities, Pennsylvania's 14 community colleges and other educational providers - that acts as the delivery mechanism for the Commonwealth's Guaranteed Free Training (GFT) program. Each provider/WEDnetPA partner serves as the point of contact for businesses accessing GFT funds.

Alberts, an advocate for the program has put the program to good use for his company. "We were able to apply for and receive funding from the WEDnetPA program in order to successfully train more than 2 dozen employees," said Alberts. "The program has definitely made our employees more productive and competitive."

Alberts, is also the VP of the Industrial Modernization Center Board of Directors, which helps companies uncover grant money for business oriented projects. IMC believes the WEDnetPA initiative to be an invaluable resource to fund vital training for the Pennsylvania workforce.

Governor Ed Rendell says "Pennsylvania is using its resources to invest in its workers to make sure they have the skills needed to compete in the global economy. We must ensure that businesses have access to a highly skilled labor force and that residents have the education and training they need. Together with the Workforce and Economic Development Network of Pennsylvania, the Commonwealth is making sure our working men and women remain competitive. We're working to improve the quality of life for our residents as well as our economy."

"It's important that this program continues to be funded. It is a useful asset to business owners and employees throughout the entire state," Alberts says.

New Facility
In June of 2007 the Ralph S. Alberts Co., Inc. completed the construction of a 12,500 sq. ft. addition. As a result of several years of continued growth in all the manufacturing departments, as well as needed floor space for the dedicated molding processes for the medical simulator industry, the Alberts Company found it necessary to increase its physical size to 50,000 sq. ft. The addition created new space for manufacturing, storage and offices. In addition to the building expansion, more parking was created to handle the hiring of new staff. RS Alberts looks forward to continued growth throughout the entire company to meet the growing needs of our customers, both current and future.
