The DeWalt Heavy-Duty XRP™ 1⁄2” 18V Cordless Drill/Driver was the latest in a long line of professional power tools from DeWalt. By using the epoxy tooling injection molded process, DeWalt was able to get injection molded parts with inexpensive tooling in a short time. The engineers used the injection molded parts for fit and function, material tests and field testing. By using the epoxy tooling injection molding process, the engineers at DeWalt were able to address design issues and make improvements before metal was cut for production tooling thereby saving them costly changes and reducing their time to market. The R.S. Alberts produced 10 separate molds for this project. Parts were molded using Polycarbonate, 33% glass filled nylon, Acetal, PC/ABS blend and nylon.
