Ward's Natural Science is a supplier of educational science supplies. Ward's wanted to be able to find a way to produce specimens used for dissection without having to use the real thing. Based on annual quantities and complexity of the proposed parts it was determined that the cast urethane process would be the appropriate process for the project. Freeze dried dissected specimens were sent to R.S. Alberts and silicone molds were made. The silicone molds allowed the parts to be molded with all of the undercuts in the specimens. The silicone also picked up the detail from the specimens that the customer desired. The parts are then shipped to an art school where they are detail painted.
